    The Spanish
    Armada

This project was my first experience creating an animation. I chose to explore two interests of mine: history and maritime archaeology, adapting and animating a condensed version of the Drain the Oceans episode: Secrets of the Spanish Armada. To challenge myself, I worked with a limited colour palette and experimented with difficult transitions. The result is an illustrated animation that could be used in educational settings, such as museums or classrooms. Below, I’ve included some process work to give insight into the project’s development.

Process Work
For the visual style, I drew inspiration from Disney concept artist and animator Mary Blair. I planned and drafted each scene in a detailed storyboard to streamline the animation process. Then I drew all of the illustrations digitally and animated them in Adobe After Effects.

Fonts

Unable to find a font that matched my vision, I created two custom fonts by hand and digitized them. These fonts added a personal touch to the animation's design.
