           Wayfinding System Proposal

    Queen West
    Art Crawl

For this project, I designed a new wayfinding system for Toronto’s Queen West Art Crawl (QWAC), a multidisciplinary arts festival attracting over 65,000 visitors annually to Trinity Bellwoods Park. Held in late September, the festival connects people to the culture and community of Queen West through art. The redesign aimed to improve navigation, orientation, and the visitor experience while reflecting the vibrant, inclusive spirit of both the festival and its location in Toronto’s Art and Design District. I developed my proposal in three phases:
- Research & Site Analysis
- Wayfinding Strategy
- Precedent Research & Concept
  Development

Context   QWAC features over 250 artists, performances, and community activities. Previously, wayfinding relied on minimal and inconsistent signage that didn’t quite match the festival’s spirit, leaving gaps in navigation and branding.

Branding/Visual Identity

The new visual identity reflects QWAC’s multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusive festive atmosphere. Its cohesive colourful, organic shapes are modern, inviting, and adaptable across various applications, aligning with QWAC’s mission to connect people through art and celebrate Queen West’s unique culture.

Design

My wayfinding design is an expanded, non-digital system that supports a community-focused experience, using sustainable materials for durability and adaptability.

Wayfinding Signage Family   The modular and consistent layered panels separate information, providing clarity, depth, and simplifying setup and modifications, ensuring an efficient and inclusive wayfinding system.

Each area has the logo, destination name, symbol, and sponsor panels. The large symbols and colour-coded zones improve accessibility, making signage easier to see from a distance, especially for visitors with vision impairments.

Photo Opportunities
Placemaking installations offer photo opportunities and increase visitor engagement. Each photo station identification panel includes a camera symbol.
